2010 The year I achieve these goals!

I've already written a blog about some of my goals, but I was browsing through blogs and saw several that posted pictures. I decided to really be concise and post more in detail. I'm going to make myself a 2010 board with these goals. I know the concept that we unconsciously complete our goals when we have stated them and make them more tangible. This is my tangible list!

List of 2010 goals:

Sell our house! This is a picture of our house after Ike! This is actually after much of the clean up, with much left to do! Ike put the brakes on any idea of selling in Sept 08 with the housing market crash happening in Oct 08! Now the market has rebounded somewhat and in the area our home is, we can now sell it and still get plenty of our equity from it! Ike left a laundry list of things that must be done before we can sell it and this spring all those details will be taken care of! YEA!

Once the house is sold a new addition will be added to the family! Please meet Lola!

I'm a car girl! Love 'em. Love muscle cars! Is was born in '69 and some day I will own a '69 Camaro! It will sit in the garage with my 2011 model camaro. I've been waiting since GM first starting talking about this and finally it's here. She's gorg!

Goal number 3 is about working out. I began dancing at a young age! I love to dance and I've always been very in shape. So......the fibromyalgia diagnosis several years ago was devastating! I'm not one to be held down or back, but my body sure did do it! I can no longer exercise. Even if I go shopping I can't walk too long. I'm so limited by my pain! I will be starting a work out program. The mayo clinic recommends tai chi as a gentle effective exercise for people with fibro and I'm going to try it!

With our house sold the door will be open to purchase a new home here in our new town! Right now I'd like for this to be my new home!

I have posted the pics of this house inside and out...I look forward to making it my own!

Another goal I have is to get back into my college studies! I am not sure that I have the strength or energy any longer to complete a nursing degree, but I have all the prereqs I need to complete any bachelor's of science degree. I never got back to school after the big move here in June 2007, this is the year! I've only got four semesters left! I can do it!!!!

Last, but not least; in fact, this is the most important thing on my list is getting back into in depth Bible study. Again, something that I haven't gotten back into since I moved. I used to go to a Tuesday Bible study class that had five days of homework. Usually about 30 to 45 minutes a day. However, the homework usually led to a curiosity to know more. So studying and learning were hand in hand with prayer and a closer walk with my Lord. My walk with Him is much more important than anything that this earth holds and I have been lazy. I'm ashamed of myself. This year my passion as a student of the King will take first place!

I'm not sure if I can adequately express my jubilation at seeing 2009 wave bye-bye! This year, full of its ups and downs, was done! Just wrung out and overwrought! I'm happy happy to welcome the warm embrace of a new year. Fresh, clean...full of promise, just as every new year is. I'm pleased as punch every year to see the next one marching in. Obviously this year is no exception!

I don't make resolutions, it seems like its just something to look back at with regret if it doesn't happen. I have things I'd like to do and accomplish, goals if you will. None of these things will have to be done and completed before the next new year begins. 2010 will continue my march toward health and peace. This year we plan to sell our home in Houston and buy a home here in our new city. Put down roots, roots that run deep and strong. I'm going to find a place to take ti-chi lessons. I'm not sure if that's how its spelled, but I need gentle exercise that works, and from what I understand that's a great place to start.

We got the keys to our new rent house, and it's a house that I can see us buying. It's big enough, but not too big. With a soon to be empty nest, it's enough room with out being too much room. It needs my attention. Every single metal color you can think of is there, styles all mish-moshed and dingy white walls waiting for me to change! The two houses we've lived in here are both homes that we knew we would not want to live in long term and for me, not having roots is disorienting! I feel almost like I have mental vertigo. I feel unbalanced, off kilter, my stomach isn't settled and I just plain feel sick! It sounds silly, but I just need MY space. MY families space...our home. I know that our home is where we are and when i'm with my husband and children, I'm home, but I like having a place to call home, a place our compass always points too, that draws the kids back and waits to comfort us after a long hard day. So, having this goal in sight is like taking the yolk from my shoulders and taking a water break!

Life has curve balls

Well, this is just a word to let bloggyville know that life's about to get crazy here! We are all gearing up for the wonderful holiday season and everyone is getting too busy to even stop and take a breath. Everyone is showing off their gorgeous decor, giving ideas freely, and receiving in return. I have been getting Christmas out and getting it ready to make the house come alive. I have family coming for Thanksgiving so I have been staging in the garage. The second they leave every trace of fall is outta here and Christmas is moving in! Last year we went out of town for Christmas and had just moved into this rent house in Sept. The unpacking was complete, but I just never got around to decorating for Christmas, so this year I was going to do it up right!

Then came the curve ball! Isn't life just full of them! You have to laugh! Really, what's the option? Wallering in self pity? Complaining and having a hissy fit? No, we're trying to take the whole thing in stride. We opened a letter this week from our mortgage company that turned out to be not a letter for us, but a letter for the owners of the home we rent! Oops they have the same mortgage company! This house is going into foreclosure on 12-03-09! So we have to start packing!!! Fortunately our property manager has another home coming available in this same neighborhood on the first. I'm going to check it out today and make sure it is wheelchair accessible enough for the hubby. If not then we will really be scrambling for a house to move to. We know that there are probably things we could do to stay longer, but really if we don't have to deal with the drama we don't want to. So now, instead of decorating, I'm packing. We really hope to be moved completely by the middle of December and be able to at least enjoy the rest of the season!

This has cemented the plan for selling our home in Houston and buying down here. We want to put down some roots and not be worrying about paying rent to a home that's not being paid for!! This next year is going to be a wild ride!! I think I will need this blog to be my sounding board, just to think and process what all is going on! As soon as we sell we hope to build. The idea of that makes me super excited and makes me want to throw up! LOL But the idea of having a home built that is perfect for us is so awesome! After living for 15 ish years in homes that are minimally wheelchair accessible we can have it done exactly right. We can choose all the fixtures and it will be just how we like it in every way!

Our home in Houston was a typical rancher and we did so many remodelling projects just to make it livable for the hubby, and to make it less 60's and 70's velvet wallpapery! Living with half the house in the garage, or no shower for two weeks! I'll be thrilled to have a home that doesn't need updating!!

So you can be sure that there will be pictures! My poor little craft room/office makeover will have to start all over again at the next rent house!!!! And I will have to figure out all the furniture placement and where to hang pictures. There will be lots of pics here and lots of what do you think....should the couch go over here? LOL My hubby hates when I ask him those kinds of questions!

Who says you can't go home again! Last week I spent the week sleeping at my momma's house and hanging out with my family and friends, both old and new.

I grew up in the suburbs of Houston and growing up I always considered where I was born home. Home was an itty bity town outside of Fort Worth. After I was grown I always thought longingly of my summers spent visiting my Granny and Papa. Going out to my Papa's home place and playing with the smelly cow dogs, picking fresh veggies from the garden and hanging out in the trees in the evenings as the day cooled down. I was an only child there, the only granddaughter of a granny with two sons and four grandsons! My granny taught me to sew, bake, quilt and to starch a pair of jeans until they stood up all by themselves! My papa came home everyday from working in the trainyard filthy stinky dirty, but he left every morning with fresh clean starched and line dried work clothes.

Now that I've moved away from where I grew up, I have those same nostalgic feelings about Houston. Tuesday night I went to "my" Beth Moore bible study with some of the girls, then went to eat afterwards. Beth was right on and I laughed until I thought I would wet my pants and wished I would've worn steel toed boots from all the toe steppin' she was doing, just like old times! I spent the next day visiting with my sister in law and my niece and nephew. We went to the fire station and visited with my brother in law and let my niece play on the fire trucks. My niece is going to be two in January and I promise you, she's the smartest girl on the earth right now!! :) She came and stayed the night with me at my mom's. Mom watched her for a couple of hours so that I could meet up with a few friends from school. The ladies that made it were girls that I had gone to school with since kindergarten! Very fun! We talked for hours, then it was back to moms to tuck in my little sweetie pie. She went shopping with me and my group of girlfriends from church. We had such a good time at lunch. Then we went shopping! Boy have I forgotten how much work it is to have a little one with you! She was so good and only had one minor meltdown. The meltdown ended as soon as I turned onto the shoe aisle. She lifted her little head off my shoulder and said, "Shoes!! I like shoes!" Yep, you guessed it ,shoe diva in training!!

Saturday morning I had coffee with another group of old friends and saw another friend from high school. As I headed home to my hubby and youngest son I was feeling homesick. I needed to see my guys! My boy shot his first deer while I was gone. He texted me immediately! But, I missed them. When I got home we piled up in my bed and the boy unloaded. He talked for an hour straight!

Yep, you can go home again. It's true, home is where your heart is. When I visit my Granny, I feel home in my heart. When I visit my parents, I feel home in my heart. However, when I'm with my hubby and my boys I just feel home. Where ever we are, if we're together I'm home!

Creating Vignettes

Hi y'all. This morning I'm getting ready to head off to Houston for a few days. My son turned 22 this past weekend, so I'll be taking him and his precious other half to dinner, I'm going to hook up with my Bible study girlfriends and go to Beth Moore's bible study tonight and tomorrow I'll be going to dinner with some girls from high school that I haven't seen in 23ish years!! There will also be serious snuggling with my brand new nephew, can't wait to meet him!! I will also be dragging my mom and possibly son's girlfriend all over Houston shopping at the stores we don't have down here! Any bloggers in the valley that need Houston provisions speak up! :)

I wanted to post a few pictures I took this weekend. A post on Maria's Blog a few months ago about vignette's inspired me and I've been kind of playing around with doing it. I'm not good at it, it's something I've always had problems with, you know, the finishing details. Maria's post made it seem simple enough. Let me disclaimer this by showing you a picture of how the table by the couch usually looks

Of course the boy is in school right now so his glasses and most of his pens aren't there, and I did throw away the empty dinty moore can before taking the picture! Now here's some pics of a company's coming side table.

You southern girls will recognize my secret little habit in the background! Me and Sonic, we are like that I tell you! Isn't this picture so much better than teenage boys nightstand? So peaceful!

The flowers are in my granny's baby bottle! I thank the Lord for her packrat ways!! I have so much family history from her!

This is the other side table. This table was my Papa's night stand, it's scratched and beat up, I've gorilla glued the heck out of this think, it was in pieces when I got it. I will probably paint it the same color as the other side table when I get around to it!

Y'all be sure to notice my little violet plant! This is the first one I've ever been able to keep alive! Despite my cats best attempts to kill it!! It just keeps blooming and blooming! :)

This is my old, but new to me gateleg table in my breakfast area. I've been sanding away, little by little. It should be done by Christmas, I hope! But I wanted it to look nice and have a focal point so I put this together.

So, you like? See any tips that would make any off it better?

One more thing, this is to show nannykim what my new spray paint trigger looks like, I think hubby bought it at Walmart, but I know I've seen them at Lowe's!

Met Monday Makeover!

Why?? Why, oh why, didn't anyone tell me? I mean, I've read about it. Others have raved about it, but I just didn't think it was for me.

I'm talking about spray paint! My new BFF. Every time I have used it my finger just can't hang with the can. I cramp, I just don't have the finesse that I need with that stupid can! My dear sweetie has heard my complaints and brought home the most amazing trigger for the spray paint! I have to run and give him a kiss every time I come in from the backyard after applying a coat! I have been spray painting like a mad woman! I'm making up for lost time! All those years?! I've got several projects going that I need to finish before the entire family shows up at my from door at Thanksgiving! My office will be my sons temporary quarters while he visits and it has to be done!

This brings me to the second installment of my office redo. I am doing this on a zero budget. I am revamping and restyling. So, here's a before picture of my chair and a bonus peek of what my desk area looks like when I'm in the middle of a project! I have to have everything I need all around me so I'm just keeping it real! You can see my new spray paint stash, every bit of that is used up now! :) My chair has been around! I bought it used from craigslist about two years ago and it's been used daily by me and the kids, it looks tired here, dontcha think?

Now for the amazing after!

Isn't it great??! All spray painted and recovered! I purposely didn't take the pictures in the office because I want to show it all off when it's done! :)

Soul Searching

So, where have I been?? I've been regrouping! I have been focusing on some God details in my life. I started this blog at a time when I was desperately struggling. Desperately struggling in so many areas of my life. Honestly I had been in that place for several years, it came upon me slowly and built. Very sneaky! I felt very removed from life outside my home. My home didn't feel like my home, I felt lost. I started really working on making my home feel loved it, not just lived in. I felt that blogging about it and being conscious of the changes would help. It didn't help, because my blog is brand new and haven't found my voice or any real focus I didn't have much feedback. This just made me feel more lonely. I was looking for a sense of community in the wrong place.

In June 2007 my little family up and moved 350 miles from our "home". We left behind my son, my parents, my brother and his young family, my husbands parents, three of his siblings and all of our nieces and nephews and their children. Plus, my very tight knit group of girlfriends. You know that group of ladies you raise your children with. The ones who you swapped babysitting and carpooling duties with. Our move happened very quickly. About six weeks after we found out; we were moved lock, stock and barrel. I was in school full time and had a son struggling with a drug problem. It was very simply like the Jerry Springer show at our home at times. But it was the home we lived in for 18 years and our community was there. Moving away separated me from my support system, and my beautiful son, my oldest, when he was in the depths. I know now that was God's doing, he needed to "lose" our support to find his own in that battle he faced.

The stress of this entire situation caused my fibro to be severe and all of this side effects that come with it. I had begun to feel that everything wrong with life right now was because of our move. Because I moved with the conviction that God was moving us here, I felt guilty about feeling this way! Financially, emotionally, physically, mentally...all of it. It was all messed up because we moved away. In the last few weeks I've spent some serious time soul searching. Searching for God, searching for my life back! It's said that when you feel far away from God that it's not Him who moved. I had not walked away from God, I had just not spent time on the relationship, the most important relationship I will have on this earth.

For the last few weeks I've been seeking God's face. Really seeking change. And...I found it! I have crawled back into God's lap and in the process, I found myself again! I've found my passion again, I've remembered why I was passionate and I have discovered that for me, God is life. Everything is just too hard to do it alone. Even with my husband supporting me in every way he could, it was still too hard. It's not his job to be my God, it's his job to be my husband and he does this very well. It is also not my children's job to be my God, or my friends, and none of these people can even help me in my relationship with God. It's just me and Him and I need to find Him, and hold on tight all by myself.

Now, I want to continue this blog. I do love doing all the fun decorating and sewing and crafting, I love sharing and getting feedback and ideas. I still need to find my voice here. I will, I used to write. It's in here somewhere!

Thanks for reading and allowing me to be transparent and I hope that this encourages someone out there in blog land to spend a little time soul searching!

I'm moving along with my little craft room. Yesterday I bought the paint to get the two bookcases and my sewing machine cabinet painted. I think I'm going to paint my chair as well. I'm going to recover it and that leads me to my question for y'all!

I picked this fabric up last night thinking it would be a good choice to recover my office chair with. I love the colors! I'm just wondering if it's not too serious for the room? Maybe I need something a bit more whimsical? What do you think??

My craft room overhaul!

I'm blogging today and linking to Susan's Met Monday!

Several months ago I decided that I wanted to do more things crafty and creative. I actually felt that I really needed to get back in touch with that side of me. When I went back to school a few years ago I really had to set aside all things extra, school was all science and logic, no room or time for creative thinking in the nursing program. When we moved here the teenager pretty much took up in the living room like he lives there. I can't complain, because he's not locked away in his room ignoring the rest of the house, I'm actually happy that he wants to be a part of the household. Hubby has his home office to go to. It's where he goes to work everyday. That's completely his space.

Me, I didn't really have a space and I was feeling it. Y'all know that craft projects aren't always done in one day and that often they are messy. That really leaves the dining room out! You see my dining room the second you walk in the door! The only space left was the master bedroom. So, I was working ON the bed. Each evening I would put everything on the bed onto the floor next to the bed, on my side. My side of the bed is not that big, so it was a careful tiptoe to the my side of the bed. I grew more and more frustrated! One day I had just had enough and I did a major overhaul of our little rental house. Our third bedroom was completely taken over by our ebay business. It was being used as our warehouse, storing our products and mailing supplies. I moved our "warehouse" into the formal living room that was really never used. I wanted a space that I could close the door on either to work without interruption or to not look at the mess I've created!

This summer I went and picked out paint. I'm not a professional, but I love color! I also love to paint! Y'all know that as a mom, everything you do gets undone, daily. I do laundry, cook, clean...and the next day it all needs to be done again! When you paint, it stays painted, you can walk in everyday and say to yourself, I did that and it's not undone today! Ahhhhh! I wanted the room to feel light and airy, fresh! I have an antique chair that's upholstered in a nice lime green and blue stripe, I knew I wanted that chair in the room. I chose colors from a chip card with a sunroom picture on it. The green for the walls is Valspar Garden Fairy. The ceiling is Valspar Summer Sorbet. I also got a gallon of Bella Mint from the same card to use as an accent. Here's the colors all painted and done:

It was okay and I lived with it, my son hated it and said it looked like a babies room. I had to admit that it was paler than I had wanted, just not lime-y enough, although I knew that the Garden Fairy color was not lime-y I kind of chickened out and went light! I hate that! I know not to do that, and still I do it! You'll notice that the ceiling just doesn't look like I thought it would. The blue just doesn't look right! I painted an old window the ceiling color and hung it on the wall, it was TERRIBLE! That's when I knew that I had to do something else. I got out the Bella Mint and painted it on a small area of the wall just to see what it would look like:

Much better! That's the color I was going for! Here's a look at the paint on a larger scaled comparison:

What a difference! It looks so much richer! Not washed out and baby roomish like the first paint. So here's the paint done, you can see the ceiling blue looks much better with this green.

Obviously the room is still in progress, but I'm much happier every time I walk in. I'll post the completed room in a week or two!

Fall is here and so are the butterflies!

I just had to blog! I have had the windows open all day! Fall has finally shown her face way down here in south Texas!! Yesterday it was in the high 90's and today it's in the 70's! The wind is from the north and so fresh!!

BUT, the most exciting thing is that I went out just a few minutes ago and the first of the Monarch Butterflies are here!!!! Hundreds and hundreds of butterflies are coming from the north and headed for Mexico! Every year they come through, usually we start seeing them in September, but I guess its just been too hot. I will get off now and go sit outside until its too dark to see them! I tried to take some pictures, but I can't find my cord to plug it into the computer, I thing the teenager has it. If any of them came out I will be posting them soon!

Project ADD

Hey y'all! Sorry for the extended break last week. I didn't even mean too, it just happened! I've been plugging along with all of my projects. My usual MO is fully intact, lots of projects at once. I'm not sure if its that I'm easily distracted, overly ambitious or a bit of both?

Last week my hubby surprised me! He called me and told me to meet him at Lowe's. Okay, off I go and he let me pick out a new hand sander! My old one was just square and one of the arms didn't hold the sandpaper well. He's been watching me sand - by hand - on all of my projects around the house and I guess he felt sorry for me! LOL Now my sander has a round wheel, the iron shaped attachment with a long skinny attachment for tight spots! So I have completely sanded two of my six antique chairs and I've been working on doing a spindle-y leg or two at a time on the chairs and the table.

One of my other projects is a mid-century modern bar. I found it for $50 at the Salvation Army. I removed all of the doors and I've sanded it and it's getting wiped down and ready for primer tomorrow.

I am also working on a cross stitch project of the 23rd Psalm. I've painted my little office space - again! That's a post for another day! Plus all of my little crafty projects that I sell like my altered notebooks, smaller cross stitch projects and I've started working on Christmas-y things and three quilts for some new babies in my life. I'm thinking of opening an Etsy shop, but I'm not sure about that. See easily distracted!

I'm really having super guilty feelings about painting that bar/soon to be tv cabinet. I know that there must be some law somewhere I'm breaking by painting teak wood!! It really is gorgeous wood and if I still lived in Houston I probably would have craigslisted that puppy for a pretty penny, but here where I am there just isn't the same market. I keep telling my self that I can always sand all the paint and primer off and restain it. If that's not something I can do, please don't tell me!! Or do tell me! Oh, I don't know. I guess I have gone too far to stop now!

I'm going to go work on my tablescape for tomorrow!

Cabinet makeover reveal!!

Well howdy y'all. I've had a bit of a rough week. We had a small front come through and the low pressure really messes with my body. I've been in quite a bit of pain, so I've been moving slowly. I did however finish my project!

First here she is again, in her sad sad state, fresh out of the storage building:

Okay, so I cleaned her very good, then she got sanded and primed:

So after she was good and dry I painter her, I used valspar latex enamel in flat black:

Gorgeous right?! Well, that's not the end of the story. I love to paint, I paint a lot! However, this is my first dive into painting furniture that will be heavily used. I thought that I would need to seal the paint to ensure that it wouldn't come off. I used a satin poly. It was awful!!! Oh, I didn't take pictures, it was too bad. I was mad. I couldn't even look at her like that. The next day as soon as she was dry enough, I started sanding, again. I sanded every bit of the shine off, primed her, again, and painted her, again. I DID NOT poly her again! Now she was beautiful again and I just didn't know what to do. Fortunately, this is the blog world! I got some great advice and boy did it take a weight off of my shoulders. Joan, at fortheloveofahouse told me just to let the paint cure really well and it should be fine! By the way, if you haven't been to fortheloveofahouse, go, really! Her home and makeover it has received is AMAZING! You will love her blog!

So while my girl was drying from her second coat of paint, I took some fabric from my stash and glued it to poster board cut to size for the back of the cabinet. So without further blabbering....introducing my new kitchen storage/display cabinet!!!

I only put a few things on there for pictures. I'm not going to actually use her for another week, to let the paint cure really well! Well there she is! Hope you enjoyed her journey from ugly duckling to gorgeous black swan!!!

Bookshelf Fail!!

Hey y'all! This evening I had planned to post over at Susan's for Met Monday. I've been working on a bookshelf all week. Just a little at a time so that I had plenty of time to visit with my boy and his girl while they were here. Last Sunday I had a huge week planned, my son called late Sunday evening to tell me they would be here the next day! This week, all of those things are back on my list for this week, including the bookshelf. WHY??? Because I felt that it needed to be sealed, and I used a satin polyurethane. By last night I knew...I hated it!!! HATED IT! All the love was gone. I got the sandpaper out and by bedtime last night that little sucker was sanded and primed AGAIN! Here it is last week:

This time I have a flat sealer to put on when I'm done painting. (insert huge sigh here) Anyone else ever have something like this happen? I was so close to being done! I haven't done anything on it today, I'm just too mad, upset, whatever. This little hiccup is on top of the Friday night hiccup. I've been working on a cross stitch pattern and I am getting to the end of it, I used the wrong color on an entire area! Oh, I haven't taken it out, I can't look at it. It's not huge, very easily fixable, just frustrating!

I will post something for Met Monday tomorrow!

Well, my oldest and his girl are safe and sound at their own house today! It's kinda lonely, my two boys bicker nonstop when they are together. They debate everything! It completely drives me crazy, but that's how their relationship works. I miss Jennifer too, she will jump up at a moments notice to go get starbucks, or browse through barnes and knobles for hours.

My projects I had hoped to complete by the time this weekend is over were put on the back burner for the most part so I could enjoy the kiddos while they were here. I am nearly finish with the bookcase and I will be showing it off for Met Monday! It turned out so good!!

In this next week I will be getting the huge piece of furniture taking up the entire hallway in my house painted and into the spot where it will live. Hang on folks it should be interesting. Why? You my be thinking. Well, this will cause a major overhaul of the room, and so that will be the perfect time to make the headboard, I've already gotten the fabric. I want to paint an antique armoire that in there, paint another little old table, get all my new bedding up and find or make some new curtains. In other words, the bedrooms getting a total makeovr! If I'm not too overwhelmed I'd like to be slapping coats of paint on the kitchen table and chairs as I go and kill two birds with one stone. Oh and while I've got the white paint out in the bedroom, I have a few things that have been waiting there turn to get painted white, I'll throw them in too!

So I thought I would wrap up the week with a few family pictures we took before they left!

Tablescape and life!

Good afternoon blogworld! It's warm here as usual, but super nice because it's overcast!

I'm posting a tablescape today for Tablescape Thursday!

I decided to do a bit more dressy tablescape today. I set it on my formal table. I used my fall dishes and some of my crystal with my nice silverware. I tried to make it feel welcoming, but special. Hope you like it!!

In life news, my Daughter in law passed her cosmetology exam!!

She was so excited!! She came out of that building smiling from ear to ear! Of course my youngest son and I were cheering like crazy for her! Tonight we're taking her out to celebrate!

Also yesterday, I made it official! I change to a fall purse. It's as fall as it's gonna get around here, so I bit the bullet and did it. Actually I love getting to change seasons with my clothes, all the darker colors are fun to wear after the bright tropical feel of my summer wardrobe. Here are the two main summer purses I carried this year:

The first one I found at steinmart! I get most of my purses from there! The second one I found at Payless!!

So this morning here is me all dressed for fall

Yes I know I'm wearing shorts and short sleeves, but it was 100 here yesterday! This is my fall. My fall purse is a Michael Kors suede purse that I got for christmas two years ago. After Christmas I found the matching shoes at Marshall's for $15.00! I love my orange suede shoes!!! I'm not super big into labels, but my sister in law is, she always buys me name brand, so I'll not argue! :)

Metamorphasis Monday

Well hey y'all! Today I'm showing of a few of my salvation army finds and I have a little creation for Susans Met Monday!

First, look at all my little beauties!

I just couldn't get a good picture of this one! It's got little "thumb prints" all around it! I have some other plates and goblets like this! It's really a cute plate!!

Not much better but maybe you can see it? Dont look at my nails, they've had a rough week!

This is a cute little optic bowl. Perfect for serving jam in the morning!

Next is my little blue teacup! Isn't she gorgeous?!

I found these two little plates and knew they were coming home with me! They are Theodore Haviland, Limoge France! I'd love to have a set of these!!

Oh! My little yellow sugar bowl! My Great Aunt Myrtle had a yellow kitchen, straight out of the 50's, I always loved it, when I see cute yellow dishes, they are in my cart!

This is my little tidbit tray! I need to spray paint the handle, but the ruffles are just gorgeous!

Next is a little bubble plate I got to match some other pieces like it that my grandmother gave me!

and last but not least is this indiana glass dish. This will have a million uses!

I've been giving you a tiny peek at a metamorphasis in progress, this is all primered and ready for paint!!!

Hi y'all! I haven't posted in since Monday because I've been oooohhhhh soooooo busy! We spent all day Saturday and Sunday evening going through all the boxes in the front half of the storage building we bought at auction on Saturday morning. Betty, the manager of the units, bought the one next to us that had been owned by the same person. This person was given a chance to make payment and get all of his things back, but apparently they were all from his first marriage and he didn't want any of it! So I didn't feel so guilty about all of this! By Monday evening we were getting to the back where all of the furniture was! Here are a couple of pictures from Monday:

There is some beautiful furniture in there! Here's the gorgeous antique display cabinet in its new home!

Every square inch of our home is a huge mess right now!! As soon as I pick it up, hubby drags more stuff in! I know it's for a short time, so I'm dealing with it!

As it turns out that gateleg table I brought home on Saturday and posted about had six chairs in the other storage! Betty and I traded, she had those chairs, plus one other old ladderback chair I liked and I had a big ugly burgandy leather recliner that matched the sofa she had, plus an end table that matched another end table and coffee table she had. I was more than happy to give her those! Here's one of the chairs:

These chairs will get a post all their own as I transform them! Here's the fabric that will be going on them:

It's so pretty! I could just eat it with a spoon. I've had it for awhile, I've been looking for an old table and chairs set since we moved in! I left the one I had as a breakfast table in Houston, I gave it to our niece, she was moving into her first apartment and I hated that table! Finally I get to use all of the fabric I've been collecting! Yea!!!!

Now, here is a piece that didn't come from the storage building! I bought this mid century modern bar cabinet for 49.99 at the salvation army! I will be taking off most of the doors, and maybe the legs. It's getting painted and we will be using it as our TV stand in our bedroom. The bedroom is in the middle of it's own transformation! I will be posting about that later this week!

I know it's hard to see, it's crammed into our hallway. It's so huge it could only come in through the garage door and that's the only place for it, so its transformation will be taking place where it sits! The garage looks just like the storage building looks at the top! We have sold several things that we don't want from the building so we've already paid for it, now everything we sell is profit and everything we keep was free!!! Hubby has the bug and has been looking for auction notices in the paper! It is fun! Hard work, but fun to clean things up and transform them, then sell them to someone whose thrilled to have it! Keep watching, I will have lots of before and afters to post in the coming weeks!

Happy Labor day!!!

In the spirit of Labor Day Weekend Carl, Shawn and I have been working our tails off!!

We went to an auction early Saturday Morning and bought two of the storage buildings. One only had four heavy rubber mats and a set of therapy stairs. Carl needs those rubber mats so bad!! He's in a wheelchair and when he works on computers he shocks the heck out of everyone!! We've been looking for some good ones, but they are expensive. So those felt like a great score because we got them for so cheap. The therapy stairs we will sell on craigslist.

The other building we bought was full!! I could see a few things that looked nice, and since the manager of the property is a friend of ours he leaned over and told us there was some nice things in the back. So we bid and got it for a great price!!

For the past two days we have been going through all the boxes in the front. They are garage/barn type items. There's a saddle and all types of things for horses, and an over abundance of tools. Hubby and the kiddo are having cows about all the things they are pulling out. There's a chainsaw, a sawsall, three circular saws, and every other tool you can think off. We have dragged home three really big heavy boxes to dump out and go through. I'm still hoping for a chop saw somewhere!!

Today we will head back over and since we've gotten all the boxes out of the way we will be pulling out the furniture pieces to really see what we have! I know there's a four foot wide curved glass antique display cabinet. I have always wanted one!! It's huge! Also I have already pulled out an antique table that's going to go in our breakfast area. It needs a good cleaning and painting. I think it's going black.

This is a cabinet that I pulled out. It's going to get painted as well and get some glass doors made for it. This all is subject to change, depending on what we've got all the way in the back of the building!

We also pulled out a ladder that will fold into different positions and can act as a scaffolding. I've mentioned that I like to paint. I have painted several friends homes, guided them on colors and went to work. I love that I can be so brave and decisive helping them with color and the finished product always looks so good!! This ladder will help alot! Here's my new ladder!

In the next few weeks I will be cutifying all the furniture and the boys will be digging through tools and cleaning them up. Then we will be having garage sales for a few weeks, if they don't go well we'll get a booth a la pulga (flea market)and sell. Then we will also sell on craigslist. We are confident we will make our money back. Just the few antiques I'm keeping would cost as much as we paid for the whole thing!

Sunday's Delights

I know God listens and is moved when we pray. I've been through some really tough things in my 40 years. I want to share with you something that was a moment of clarity and relief for me.

People say this, "God never gives you more than you can handle." They say this trying to make you feel better, and they mean so well. But let me tell you that it's a lie! A lie knitted together by satan meant to destroy. We get told this, then wonder why in the world can't we handle what we're going through. Why do we feel too weak to walk through, if indeed, God wouldn't give us more than we could handle?! This can lead to questions about God and about our own christianity.

Paul says in 2 Corinthians 1:8-9a, "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the senctence f deathl" Now if Paul felt pressed beyond his ability to endure, can't we? Yes! What God's word actually says that people misquote is this, " And God is faithful; He will not let you be TEMPTED beyond what you can bear." It does not say hardship! Now back to 2 Corinthians 1, but this time let's look at 9b, "But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead." God allows(not causes)hardship in our lives, that feel overwhelming and like too much, so that we will rely on Him. We can not handle these situations without fully leaning on Him, relying on Him, and trusting in Him.

Now this is my prayer for you :For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom His whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen" Ephesans 3:14-21

Everyone loves a cute pair of shoes!

Today I'm hooked on a pair of my cute shoes! I'm playing the roll of June Cleaver as I Dyson around the house in my Steve Madden's, purchased earlier this summer at DSW. I said a prayer before I left that house that day, becasue I know that God cares about the small details in my life, not just the big moments. I was there looking specifically for the perfect pair of shoes to match an outfit I had picked out to wear. I walked in and there was a beam of light from heaven shining down on a shoe display! Okay, maybe it was just the bright flourescents! But, there they were, the perfect green shoes. Now, my size 7 feet ran as fast as they could to see if there was the right size. AND there was! They had me at hello. Who could resist really? Ruffles, crayon green, wedge heel...*big sigh*
They've been worn so much! I had no idea how many outfits I would put together to go with the little babies, but everytime I go out in them I can always find my fellow shoe girls, they always stop me!

My First Tablescape Thursday

Hi! So this is my first Tablescape Thursday with Susan at Between Naps on th Porch. I am super html illiterate, so I'm going to try really hard to link to her blog, we'll see how this all works out!

Today I am posting pictures of a regular everyday tablesetting at our house. Nothing super special, just homey and nice, because having a tablecloth and cloth napkins just makes dinner feel more special! :) This is dinner for two, just me and you! Have a seat!

I love casual weeknight suppers. I've always called the evening meal supper. Growing up dinner was at lunch time, the big meal. Supper was leftovers from dinner.

These are my everyday dishes. They are Todd English from HSN. I love having the different colors.

The napkins are actually vintage kitchen towels. My Granny used them up until the day she gave them to me and most of them are still going strong.

The chargers are cute wicker rounds I found at Walmart for $3.50 each! I love the casual feel they add to the table!
That's just my everyday drinking glasses and silverware. The glasses I got at Sam's Club, but the flatware I've had forever and couldn't begin to tell you where I got it!

The cute little crystal tealight holders I got from Steinmart on clearance! I love me some steinmart!!

I think we all know all about these guys!

These little cuties were my Granny's and she had them for as long as I can remember, I don't know anything about them, except that they are so sweet!

Curtains on a front door?? YES

So, I talked a bit about this before. My rental home faces West. We have had 60 straight days of over 100 degree days here. Seriously! No, really. And this area isn't called the land of two summers for nothing! It's pretty much always hot here. We get cold fronts occassionally. Little bits of winter here and there. And I use the word winter lightly. What I call winter would make a Canadian wet their pants from laughing so hard! Hey, I need a sweater if it's going to be below 70 degrees!

The beautiful leaded glass door is topped by a beautiful window. We loved the light that flooded in. However, after living with it for a bit, well the a/c was running its poor heart out and we could not keep the front of the house cool. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I searched for curtains long enough that would be in our budget. It took me all summer, but I found some beautiful curtains on Overstock.com. They were very affordable and then marked down for clearance. I bought four panels, two for the front door and two for the formal living area next to the front door. However, the formal living room is now our "warehouse" that stores all the product for our ebay business. I may still hang the curtains in there, just to help with the heat and light.

So here's a close up of the curtains:

They are a bronzey metallic color, nice sheen. I love the embroidery work on them! They weren't lined so I added black out fabric to the back so that we would have total light control.

So here's a picture with the drapes pulled back and light streaming in. This was taken in the morning, so in the evenings you can multiply the sunlight coming through by 100.

I hung them on an oil rubbed bronze rod. They were puddling on the floor a bit, I loved it! However, hubbys wheelchair wheels kept getting hung up and yanking the curtains out of the clips, so I have pinned them up. Nothing permanent though, so they can transition into a new home later. They just barely skim the floor now. We absolutely love them! I'm looking for a trim I like to add down the edges of the curtains so they have an extra bit of luxury feeling to them. Of course I'll show pics of that! So here's the gorgeous ending! I love being able to open the them in the mornings and close them a bit in the afternoons and then completely cut the glaring sun out in the evenings!

Ahhhh Fabulous! An extra bonus is now total strangers aren't sticking there noses on the glass looking in when they ring the door bell!

Computer hiccup!

Camera impatience and shoe score!

So today I just couldn't stand it anymore. The doorbell rang several times this morning and not once was it ups! I had to get out of the house. I went shopping. Where does any frustrated shopaholic head to first?? Heaven, or some of you may know it as DSW. First, I knew it would be a fruitful day when I scored a front row space! They were clearing out for the fall inventory and setting up lots of sale signs for the upcoming Sales tax free weekend here in Texas. I was looking for a certian shoe that I just saw at Dillards. They're by Via Spiga called Danielle. When I first saw them last weekend, everyone in the store faded away. My euphoria was dashed quickly, they are $215. So I had high hopes of finding a good knock off at least. Not today, but I will keep looking. I was still very happy as I was leaving. I found a super cute pair of black flats that will easily become my go to shoes. I also found another super cute pair of flats that will go great with an outfit I have. I love their clearance section!! I was also hoping to find a pair of yellow heels. I love for my shoes to be a pop of color in my outfit. I don't always match, but my outfits go together. I watch what not to wear dontchaknow!

Then it was on to TJ Maxx. I found a super adorable little sweater for $10.00 and two tops, also on clearance. TJ Maxx is right next to the grocery store so that was next and I bought some flowers while I was there. I love to have flowers in the house and I was on a specific mission for smaller flowers for the tablescaping I've been doing.

After I got home and the camera was still not here...I checked my tracking number and its not due here until the 20th! AAAHHHHHHHH~I will have so many posts to share. So many pictures. Oh, and there was just the slightest slightest touch of cool in the wind this evening. Take that with a grain of salt, it's still 100 here today. But I can feel what we call fall on the way here in the land of two summers. In September the monarchs will be flying through on their way to Mexico. Soon after that all kinds of cool birds start flying through and stopping over at our bird feeders on their way too. Some even stay, I guess we are far enough south to be south for them! I'm getting the camera just in time! :)

Happy Monday! I had a very productive weekend! I got several things knocked off of the to do list! I hung a roman shade on my back door. I sewed little rings into the curtains covering my breakfast room windows so that I could use them like shades. I also hung my new super long drapes over our front door! Our house faces west, we have a leaded glass door with a window above. Temperatures here in the summer can be easily into the 105 to 110 range. A lot of heat comes in during the afternoon/evening hours. We can already tell a huge difference!

Yay me!

Unfortunately I have no pictures for you! I am stalking the ups guy, waiting for my camera! Hopefully tomorrow.

This weekend I also have been rearranging and tablescaping a bit. I'm having lots of fun with it. I'm adding some of my granny's small tables in and removing for now some of the larger tables. I'm trying to find a good place for her milking stool! My little tablescaping experiments are going well. I definitely like them better now and it feels so much lighter and less cluttered, because well, it is! LOL

I signed up for school this semester and my boy is just about all ready for his first year in high school! EEKKKK!! He was accepted into our school districts early college high school. That means that he will graduate from high school with his associates degree! And it will be for free!!! Happy dance, oh yeah, happy dance! Since he wants to be a doctor (right now) that will mean that the college money from us will just stretch that much farther. Meaning that much less debt upon graduation.

Hello there! I have been out and about in blogland and came across a great post today. So informative! It was over at Colour Me Happy. Maria wrote about accessorizing.

I'm not a designer, but I love design and having beautiful things surround me. I do have a handicap...I don't know how to edit. I have beautiful things I've purchased for myself, things others have chosen for me, and beautiful things from my grandmother. I mean a lot of things from my grandmother. Some I love, some I love only because they were hers. She had two sons, four grandsons and me. Guess who was spoiled?? I am the only person who wanted lots of her things. I did say no to most of it, but a certain percantage just had to come home with me. She is my favorite person on the planet, the one person I felt completely safe and protected with. I have no problem getting rid of stuff. I don't keep gifts because they were gifts. I don't have a problem admitting I made a bad decision and getting rid of it. But my granny's things are just not going anywhere, yet.

So, back to editting. With all of her things and all of my things, I have too much. I also have problems deciding what looks good and how to accessorize. I have bought some pretty things that are still in my "decorating closet" I just don't know how to incorporate it. Now, after reading Maria's blog post I think that I have a renewed interest in trying. She really boiled it down to an essential three things. Flowers, candles, and books. After snooping around at other blogs I could see that the clean uncluttered tabletops with just a few beautiful things really spoke to me, and almost without fail followed this rule. Looking around my house, things look cluttered. That's the deal! Too much of a good thing is just too much.

Now, lots of ideas are running around in my head! I need to start rearranging. I'm on it and I will be posting before and after pictures. My new camera should be here between the 18 and 20, so I will try using my sons cheap camera, now that he's found it in his room. If it doesn't do well then pictures will have to wait until then, but I'm really chomping at the bit to get started tomorrow. I also have a super cute pair of shoes that I want to show off tomorrow. We'll see.

Shut up!

Today, I found a 5 foot by 3 foot frame at Hobby Lobby for $29.00! I told you! Shut up, right! I'm going to paint it a nice dark brown and turn it into a collage frame. I'm pretty sure I'll hang it in my hall way. So excited! I also got a very large $169.00 clock for $57.00. I may have to paint the face of the clock a lighter color, but what a deal! I have high ceilings here and I have much bigger walls to fill than in my little 60's rancher in Houston. I'd have pictures, but again with the dead camera. I'm thinking I'm going to get a nikon 12.0 mega-pixel camera. It's on sale at Best Buy and seems to have all the features I'm looking for. I've heard good things about nikon and since my sony died an early death I want to go with a different brand. Anyone possibly reading with any experience or suggestions for the very camera illiterate girl here?

Camera death and house woahs

Hi! Well, I have a bit of a hiccup here! My camera is dying a slow death! I can no longer take decent pictures AND it's cheaper to buy a new one than to repair it. Isn't that the way it is now, nothing is built to last, everything is disposable. It's frustrating to me. I have things of my grandmothers that still work! A radio from the 30's, it's only am, but it's working and I can't say that about my not cheap little system I bought about 5 years ago.

Anyway! We are on the hunt for a new one and in the mean time let's talk about hurricane Ike, shall we? Ike did some nice damage to our home in Houston, just as we were preparing to put it on the market. Just our luck, right? Of course the Texas Windstorm insurance didn't pay enough and we had to have adjusters out two more times after the first one to get all the money we needed to get the roof repaired, all of the sheet rock in the garage replaced and a small area inside the house as well.

The timing of this has left us living in a rent house in the valley rather than building the house we planned to be living in by now! It's a nice rental, very new and clean. But, it's not my home and I'm very limited on what I can do here. I did paint, I just can't live with builders beige. I did two feature walls and painted my office. Now we're suspecting that the owners of the house are wanting to sell. Our intuition was whispered to when the owners sent a real estate agent out to take pictures on Tuesday. Hummmmmm we said to ourselves, what is going on here. This is definitely not a house we'd live in long term, it's just too small and the backyard is less than 10 deep, no seriously 10 feet, we could jump into our neighbors pool from our back door!

We have the roof on our Houston home finally, it took until June to get everything done, but at least the house is tight and weatherproof now, in case there's another storm. We have renters in the house thank goodness. We are feeling between a rock and a hard place. AHHHHHHH There I feel better. We are really hoping to live in this rent house until we move into our own place, now maybe another year away.

Finally taking the leap!

I'm doing it! I'm blogging! It's official. Well, okay not official until I actually hit publish, but still! My plans for this blog are to share my boring life with anyone bored enough to read, and share my creations with y'all. I have so many projects swirling around in my mind. I love to decorate arrange, rearrange, shop...oh! And shoes! I have a great love of shoes! It's quite possible that my shoes will make a regular appearance here on the blog! Even if not a single soul ever reads this, I'll be happy looking at my own pictures! Even though I take terrible picture! I plan to share lots of pics and ask for lots of help along the way. Hopefully I will pick up some readers and get ideas.

My hubby will come up and both of my boys will be involved I'm sure! You may have to read venting, screaming, or witness hairpulling. The boys are 21 and 14, both with birthdays coming up soon. The oldest lives in the Houston area still.

I never want to stop learning! I hope to learn tons and tons of interesting things and possibly have a few tidbits to give to anyone whose interested as well.

Oh! Also, I'm from Texas, grew up outside of Houston and I now live way down at the very bottom of Texas, basically I'm so far south in the Rio Grande Valley that I almost live in Mexico. I love the beach and South Padre Island is a very regular destination for my family.

Okay, that's so enough about me right?! I'm very excited about this adventure!!
